Proudly servicing the South since 1934Foleys is based in the historic landmark of Cable Car House in Mornington, Dunedin. This is the administrative hub of our business and the same site that Albert Foley first established the plumbing operations in 1934. Albert was known as a craftsman in the plumbing trade and a true gentleman. His son Brian took over the business in the 1960’s and was soon to develop a reputation for investing in his employees by providing them with training and superior working conditions; a company ethos that is true to this day with Foleys recognised as a national industry leader in training.
In the late 1980’s, when the company had grown to a staff of 24, Brian took on two more directors, Chris Sutherland and his son Craig Foley. Then in 1997 the employment of an in-house accountant, Sarah Alcock (later to become a director in 2005), saw improved financial systems and reporting. This enabled geographical expansion of the business. In November 2005 Foleys took the innovative step of setting up Foleys Electrical, giving them the capacity to provide customers with an electrical service when required on a plumbing job.
Never ones to sit still, Foleys continues to expand and today we have the South Island well and truly covered. As well as 52 staff servicing the Dunedin area in domestic, commercial and construction services, we also have branches in Mackenzie Country, Wanaka, South Otago, East Otago, Christchurch, Oamaru and Alexandra. This gives our Dunedin customers with holiday homes in other parts of the South Island the convenience of being able to coordinate their requirements from our Dunedin office. Likewise we can service commercial companies with regional branches in these locations.
Years of experience, breath and depth of skills and company loyalty, these are the solid foundations that have made our 90 strong workforce the envy of its competition. Over 1/3 of our people have been with the company for more than 10 years, giving our customers a sense of trust and security through familiar faces.
